hostel & bunkhouse

Our welcoming communal style hostel and alpine bunkhouse offer great value and are fantastic places to meet people.  The Smiddy Bunkhouse & Blacksmiths Hostel  offer excellent  holiday hostel and bunkhouse accommodation, in self catered bunkrooms for 4 or 6 persons, which are ideal for cost effective budget touring around Scotland, outdoor activities …  and is some of the very best you will find in Scotland!

Owned and operated by John & Tina Cuthbertson since 1990 this is an ideal base in the heart of the fantastic Scottish Highland to independently explore the surrounding west coast of  Scotland or take to take part in our adventure activities, with our unique blend of landscape and a huge variety of outdoor activities for all levels … not to mention the wildlife.

With the start of Caledonian Canal yards from our doorstep,  located right at the start of the Caledonian Canal and Great Glen Ways, at the head of the tidal waters of Loch Linnhe, at start of The Road to the Isles –  we are at a unique geographical hub out to the west and north highlands.

Designed by Thomas Telford the Canal  was opened in 1802 to save navy ships having to go round the north of Scotland in the Napoleonic Wars. During the Highland Clearances in the 18th & 19th centuries some 3000 folks a week were transported out from the pier at Corpach to the Americas, Canada and Australasia.  All of our accommodation is named after parts of the original Blacksmiths’s workshop, dating back several centuries,  which was located on the site of the current building.

Snowgoose Mountain Centre offers in house, qualified  guiding services, courses &  adventure activity days in canoeing, river & sea kayaking, sailing as well as winter & summer walking & climbing through John Cuthbertson who is a highly experienced mountain & paddlesports instructor.

There are additional on site facilities for bike and canoe storage or hire, two efficient drying rooms as well as a well equipped meeting / lecture room for hire for groups of 12 persons.

Let’s get active …
